As much as I tried to resist the urge to do anything with Dr Seuss (because of his company's not so nice behavior regarding teachers) I just couldn't resist and ended up doing some fun stuff with my kiddos!
Simple is the name of the game for me this year!
We have a lot more planned, but it will be on Friday!

ReplyDeleteWell, you can still celebrate it in your classroom...you just can't sell anything or do freebies with anything Seuss or use clipart that looks too much like Seuss characters. The company sent a cease and desist letter to TPT and hasn't been very kind about it all, so we have to be a little more cautious =)

Special Teacher for Special Kids
Love the kitties :) Ideas... kids bring a favorite book to share. Parents come and do read alouds. Kids bring blankets, and books to read and share. Write book recommendations. Crafts and snacks are a must. Librarian or 'important' people come to your class to read as a surprise visitor. Teachers get dressed up (hats, thing shirts...)

We had a door decorating contest a couple of years ago. I got every Dr Seuss book I could find and we read all of them in class. Afterwards, I gave my students each a book and they drew the book covers. They were so darn cute!!! We also won the contest! After I took them down, I color copied them and kept a copy for myself. :-)

My class loves the Lorax so we are making truffala trees from coffee filters and water colors. Then we'll use them for a backdrop for our Lorax mustache pictures. I end up with a cute and easy bulletin board as a bonus! podamurdock@gmail.com

I have done green eggs and ham in the past. Some years I do a simpler version. I give the students a graham cracker (the ham) and a glob of fluff tinted green on top (the eggs). They seem to love the easier version just as much. I love your cat craft. So cute!

A Cupcake for the Teacher
These turned out very cute! I find the kids love the simpler activities more than the very-involved ones. We're going to make some green eggs and ham (inspired from here: http://inspirationlaboratories.com/dr-seuss-virtual-book-club-for-kids/ ) and then later add other pretend foods from different favorite stories like the comfort food in Chrysanthemum for a feast of good books! cbeargie at yahoo dOt com
ReplyDeleteTomorrow is green day... We are reading Green Eggs and Ham and then we will try green eggs and ham with some green Hawaiian punch! Afterwards, we will graph if we liked them or not. On Friday we are reading The Cat in the Hat and The Cat in the Hat Comes back and will compare the two. We are also making a Cat in the Hat inspired snack. Love your cute cat in the hats!!!! :)

Super cute! I usually go all out too, but I am taking it easy this year. Pajama day and the kids can bring in a small blanket, pillow, and stuffed animal for us to cozy up and have a read-in. Toying with the idea of cooking green eggs and ham for breakfast. I am not a blogger but have seen/heard some of the copyright "cracking-down" that has been going on...so sad! Love the craft. I will have to remember this for next year. My class (K) worked with second grade we made Cat Hats, rhyming books,and did a glyph. We read the Cat in the Hat and watched the original movie. That was Tuesday. Today we read Bartholomew and the Oobleck. We made our oobleck in science.Tomorrow we will read the Lorax and make our own truffala trees from foam and pom-poms. Friday the primary classes are having breakfast of course Green Eggs and Ham. In the afternoon my class is having a snack inspired by Green Eggs and ham ( Cool Whip with a scoop of Lime Sherbet).

I teach @ a Christian school, so we marble painted an Earth after reading The Lorax. We wrote God made -------- for me to protect. Took pix w/ yellow mustache. Kiddos loved it. Today lots of fish activities.
