Ta-Dah!!
As many of you know, past year I covered my Yellow Small Group table with contact paper. But being the fickle person that I am, I got tired of that and decided to change things up again!
My first thought was to peel the original contact paper off...and that should have worked. But it was going to take FOREVER. And I am not sure if you know this, but I am an impatient person!!
So I decided to take the easy way out and spray it with KILZ instead.
I really like how the table turned out!
It started with these:

So cute! What a clever idea to use contact paper!! Thanks for sharing!!

I am so jealous! I wish we were allowed to cover our table. Does it remove easily without damaging the furniture? I would do that to my filing cabinet too! :)
ReplyDeleteIt does not damage the furniture at all...BUT if I were to remove the original contact paper (which I initially started to do ) it would take a while and a lot of effort. =)
DeleteHaha, I just ordered that this morning, but I think I'll start by covering my bookcase and small table. If I covered my kidney table, I think my principal would have a heart attack!!! Hmmmm.....maybe I'll try to sneak it in, lol!!

Oh, by the way, I absolutely love it!!!!

My Second Sense
It is a table lectern...from WAYYYY back when, but I still use it sometimes at the small group table for my teaching materials =)
DeleteI was looking at that also. Love that idea so that my notes are not flat on the desk with the kiddos. Maybe I can make one??!! LOL!!
DeleteIt must be a Jen thing! I liked it too. I just asked my husband to build me one!! If he figures it out, I will let you know!
DeleteI love that table lectern too, not a Jen tho...LOL
DeleteI have used mine for YEARS...someone made it for me and I painted it red. I did some investigating and found this fella on etsy who makes one similar (although his is a little too tall, BUT he does custom orders! I am sure he could make one and just cut down the height. It is only like $25 with $13 shipping. You could paint it any color you like!

I have a link in the post where you can find it on Amazon =)
DeleteWhen you put this on did you cut it ahead of time or did you cut it after it was attached?
ReplyDeleteI cut a large piece that would more than cover the table and the trimmed a little bit of the excess, then I peeled gently a small section at a time, smoothing with my hand on top. After it was attached, then I trimmed the edges and rolled the corners down. Hope that helps! =)
DeleteYour table is stylin! I don't know if I have the patience to put down the shelf liner so carefully and smoothly! Great job!

Looks great! I would take one of those table lecterns too!

Creating & Teaching
I love the way your table came out! Wish I could cover my table, but my school doesn't allow us to cover/paint anything that belongs to the school!
ReplyDeleteTotally cute! Do you put anything over the contact paper to keep it from ripping, tearing, or being marked on?

For the Love of First Grade
I didn't...but I have used decorative tape in the edges to keep it from being picked at by kids =) As for marks, it cleans easily with a Clorox wipe!
DeleteOh my goodness!! I didn't even know chevron contact paper existed! I LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Great way to make a boring table look fun!

Contact paper is very very easy to remove and doesn't leave a sticky residue at all. Marshall's and TJ Maxx when you can find it has contact paper. I bought some cheap rolls for my home from there. Unfortunately, I don't have a classroom but a cubby hole. LOL!
ReplyDeleteDid it take one whole role for the table? Did you have any left? I am trying to decide how many rolls to order. Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteThe table took one whole roll (scraps were left), and I had all of the 2nd roll left that was in the pack...but I didn't make any major mistakes like I did last time =)
DeleteI LOVE IT! It looks especially great with the red and white polka dot stand.

Diving Into 2nd Grade
I so love this! I just ordered two of the blue chevron and two of the lemon yellow and I am INSPIRED!
ReplyDeleteI want to do this! I got new desks, teacher desk, and a kidney table this year. Of course all the new stuff is beautiful. but they are gray and black. The rest of my old tables are brown! Doesn't match! I'm thinking maybe I could cover them with this so they match more...or at least don't stand out as old.

Literacy Spark
I don't think my principal would mind, but our head custodian would throw a FIT!!! Love it, though!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this idea! I have the exact same contact paper covering my cupboards and cabinets in my classroom. Blue on the top cabinets and grey on the bottom.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this fab idea.
:c)
Happy teaching!

I LOVE this paper! So cute!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable! I'm going to find our asap if I can do this at school! If it easily removes as you said then I think I might just be able to do this! I would love to have a lime chevron table!! Eek! Too cute! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteRambling About Reading
How many packs did it take to do the table? Also, is the discount immediate at checkout? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMrs. Wilson's Class
It took one whole roll, with a few scraps left =) The discount is immediate, you fill your cart and then when you go to checkout, it shows up! Hope that helps!!
DeleteGreat minds think alike...I bought the grey chevron & turquoise Moroccan @ TJ Maxx ($5.99 for a double roll) a few weeks ago to do my desk & round tables. I love that you wrapped it around the sides, I had intended to just do the top but yours looks like a better idea. Any tips before I do mine? Was it difficult to wrap the sides of the rounded parts?
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't too bad..just leave extra around the edges and then trim =)
DeleteIt is very cute, but doesn't it hurt your eyes after a while?
ReplyDeleteNot anymore than the bright yellow which is what the table is underneath =)
DeleteWhere did you get that cute red book stand on your table?
ReplyDeleteA friend's husband made it for me years ago =)
DeleteI am in total love! I'm so glad I found you and your wonderful idea! It makes such a difference! (I'm thinking from all your responses you could get a full time job making these tables!-I'd be first line to pay you!) :O)

Head Over Heels For Teaching
Cute, cute! I didn't know such cute contact paper existed either! Does anyone know if you can cut contact paper on a Silhouette? Might have to try that!
ReplyDeleteCute table! I love your little book holder...my kids always want to look at my book or whatever instead of their own book. Did you make it and do you have directions somewhere?
ReplyDeleteI have used mine for YEARS...someone made it for me and I painted it red. LOVE! Must see if they have red and white!! I also LOVE your mini podium/book holder! I was thinking last night how I needed something raised on my table because that is my desk and it hurts to bend over and write sometimes!

My favorite freebie is anything on TpT or Teacher's Notebook designed by primary teachers who know how to get kids excited about learning.

ReplyDeleteYour table is so stinkin cute! Thanks for the great idea! I ran across this post on pintrest and had to see it. Then I noticed you are from Alabama and went to Montevallo. That's my hometown! I live in Georgia now, but I'm always over there to go home and see family.

Thank you for hosting this awesome give away! I'd love to win!
ReplyDeleteCan you give a little more explanation about using the KILZ? Was it to adhere the shelf paper? Would you have used it if the table was plain? By the way my cell phone is now super cute thanks to you & a previous post about cocoppa!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Nancy
The Apple Basket Teacher
I'm so glad I could help! As for the KILZ, I used it because I had previously put patterned shelf liner on the table and wanted a quick way to cover the table again, without having to go to the trouble of removing the first layer. If your table is plain, then you should have no trouble covering it without the KILZ =) (the only way I would have used it otherwise is if the table had a lacquer finish that wouldn't adhere to the contact paper...then maybe the KILZ would have helped it stick)
DeleteThis is exactly what I was wanting to know...I start on my kidney table (& other furniture if it goes well) tomorrow!! I can't wait!!
DeleteUm...you're totally hired to come do mine too!! ;)

Falling Into First
Do you know if I cover my metal bookshelves (with contact paper) will they still hold a magnet?
ReplyDeleteYes, they will =)
DeleteDid you have any issues with the seams? My tables are wider than 18" so there will have to be a seam somewhere.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think I had three total...I just matched the chevrons up and put one piece over top the other =)
DeleteFound you on Pinterest! LOVE... LOVE... LOVE this!!!
