Bugs in My Hair! by David Shannon ~Review, Freebie, and Giveaway~

When I was asked to review David Shannon's new book, Bugs in my Hair, I said yes...of course!  Who can resist his books??  But then when I got the book I was a little apprehensive because the topic it's about can be a little touchy...a little itchy to be precise.  But you know what?  It is a subject we deal with in school and anything we can do as teachers to make it a little less scary and embarrassing, then I'm all for it.


I read the book and my kids loved it, they thought it was hilarious.  It also opened a discussion with text to self connections and allowed us to talk a little about hygiene.  I even shared about how I had lice once when I was a kid and then again as an adult!  They were shocked, I mean, Ms White had lice???  ...the absolute horror!

If you want to open up the discussion and have a fun page to do with your own kids, then look no further!  My students brainstormed things the would not want in their hair!

The kids had a great time thinking of things they wouldn't want to be in their hair..and some of their answers cracked me up!

    I have yet to read the new Shannon book, but I am excited to! My favorite Shannon book is A Bad Case of the Stripes! I really hope to win the give-a-way!

    I love all David books, but I think the one I have the most fun reading is
    No David because I can yell and it always startles the kids. Thanks for the giveaway. No matter who wins, the kids will love David.

    Thank you for your opportunity to receive free books for my class. I have yet to purchase the new book, Bugs In My Hair. However, my favorite book to read to my students is A Bad Case of Stripes. I use this book to teach feelings and emotions to my first grade class. The new book will be a great book to tie in as well. I hope I am a lucky winner!

    I love the David books! I had a student named Devin in Kindergarten who loved the David books, and he was so much like David that I jokingly called the book "No Devin!" in my head. I still think of him when I read those books. :-) I also like the David Christmas book. I was so concerned that David wouldn't get any Christmas presents when I read it, and I seriously almost cried.
