As many of you know, I am new to Investigations this year. I am trying to keep up with everything, in addition to teaching (tough sometimes!)
We did "Peas and Carrots" last week and I found this anchor chart on Pinterest
by Fabulous in First, original post {here}
I started the lesson off with whole group discussion using unifix cubes to discuss and come up with all the ways to make 7.
Ahead of time I had cut out simple, paper "peas" and "carrots" and put them into a container from Dollar Tree for each table.
My kids used paper plates to create the combinations and then write their equations on the plate.
(they loved that part)
We used the Investigations page to record our favorite.
As an extension, I used a page from Kinder Craze's
Decompose Bundle found {here}
Because of her awesome pack, I didn't have to create anything for the Peas and Carrots lesson, except for the fancy anchor chart that I did after we created a messier version in class.
I can't just leave you without a freebie, so I will share the simple recording page I created for one of the other games we played this week, Three Towers. (it was not a game we mastered in a day....it may take a while to get it, which is why I like to have multiple versions of the recording page)

Hope you can use it! Now I am off to go to the Pumpkin Patch! Have a great Sunday!!

ReplyDeleteLove the anchor chart! We do peas and carrots too. And now we are doing apples and pumpkins and next week we are doing spiders and bats. Then we always go back to peas and carrots. It is the anchor of our math for my Kindergarten team.

I'd love to see a picture of your anchor chart! I'm always so fascinated by other teachers' skill when it comes to creating them. Thanks for the freebie, saving it for my future classroom now!
