Review and GiVeAwAY of the HearALL Assessment Recorder

I was contacted by Learning Resources to review their 

HearALL Assessment Recorder

I have to say, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it at first, but quickly found out!  Of course, I can see it being used to record progress monitoring so that I could listen for miscues later when I had more time to concentrate and focus on their reading... 

But this particular day I decided to use it during my small group instruction time to record my kids while they read.  First of all, they were super excited to "be a movie star" and perform.  It is easy to use, once you read the directions, plus it picks up sound really well...even my soft speakers could be heard.  I let them read and then we played it back.  I let them listen and follow along.  We also listened for mistakes, or words that they had to sound out, which I let them use a highlighter to highlight in the paragraph.  All in all, it was very successful and the kids LOVED it.  I was sort of scared that they might recognize how slow some of them read, and feel bad....but they didn't.  They were just excited to hear themselves.  It was a moment to shine.  I can see using the recorder for Reader's Theater, either to practice or to record the final version.  I also think it would be fun to upload their pictures and the recording into
Smilebox and share online or email to parents!
